It has taken many years to trace the family line back to Magheralin. The journey has taken me from the Western United States, through upstate New York and Ontario Canada, into Quebec and finally across the pond to Ireland.
I started this journey when I was about 13-years-old. I had grown up hearing the stories of how my grandfather and great-grandfather had left the family in Quebec and traveled west to finally settle down in Utah. To this day no one really knows why they left and the passing years have made it less and less important. But I was intrigued at that young age to find out more about that original family. I wanted to know who they were and what their lives were like. I wanted to know their names and what they looked like. I wanted them to know that they had close family members across a continent who desperately wanted to reconnect and bring the family together again. This blog is my way of sharing with the family some of those desires and how they've been fulfilled.
There are many pictures and documents and stories that need to be shared. As I post to this blog I will do my best to include those things. I've created a Family Group Sheet page that can be accessed from the link on the right. There you will find links to a number of family group sheets that contain most of the information I have on that particular family. These will be updated from time-to-time as my research continues and more names are discovered. If you're looking for information on a particular family that isn't included in the list, please let me know and I'll post what I have. Also, I try to be a stickler about accuracy but often times the information I have about an individual or family is incorrect. If you notice a mistake or have additional information, please let me know so I can update or correct my records.
So welcome! Whether you're a member of the McCourt clan or just a friend stopping by, I hope you'll enjoy this blog.
May the sun always shine on your windowpane;
May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain;
May the hand of a friend always be near you;
May God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.
Irish Blessing
